Gregory E. O’Brien is one of Ohio’s leading appellate and insurance litigation attorneys, with extensive experience handling complex business, tort, and insurance disputes in both state and federal courts. An accomplished appellate advocate, Greg has briefed and argued more than 100 appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the Ohio Supreme Court, and numerous Ohio appellate courts.

In addition to his appellate practice, Greg is widely recognized for his experience in insurance coverage and bad faith litigation. He is one of only a select number of Ohio attorneys certified as a Specialist in Insurance Coverage and Bad Faith Law. His practice encompasses all aspects of insurance litigation, including coverage opinions, examinations under oath, reservations of rights, declaratory judgment actions, breach of contract claims, bad faith litigation, and disputes arising under property, commercial general liability, automobile, and other insurance policies.

Greg has long been recognized as a leader within Ohio’s legal community. He has served in numerous leadership roles with the Ohio State Bar Association, including Chair of both the Appellate Law Specialty Board and the Insurance Law Specialty Board, and has chaired the Appellate Courts Committee of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. A past President of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, he has also chaired its Amicus Curiae Committee and received several of the organization’s highest honors, including the Frank Seth Hurd Member of the Year Award and the President’s Award.

A frequent author and lecturer, Greg has earned widespread professional recognition throughout his career, including an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, repeated selection to Ohio Super Lawyers for Appellate Practice and Civil Litigation Defense, and numerous awards from the Defense Research Institute and the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys. He has also served as a Life Delegate to the Judicial Conference of the Eighth District Court of Appeals.

Greg earned his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1986 after graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Walsh College. He also completed the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Trial Academy, further strengthening his trial and appellate advocacy skills.
